cemetery St. Paul’s Anglican

This cemetery is shared with the Anglican Church of Barry’s Bay and has three different sections to it. Section 1 and the front part of Section 2 is the oldest part, while the remainder is newer. Section 1 is completely full.

The cemetery is on flat and sandy land, except for the front part of Section 2 which is on a small rise.

In the front part of Section 2, the Hudson families are buried. John Hudson (#159) was the owner and “manager” of the Mayflower which sank on Nov, 12, 1912 on Kamaniskeg Lake. Aaron Parcher (#14) was the Captain of the boat, and he also lost his life in the sinking. John Hudson was reeve of the Twp. of Radcliffe at the time of his death. Aaron Parcher’s body drifted to shore and was found the next day by his brother. Seven other people lost their lives that day.

John Hudson also owned the Hudson Inn in Combermere and today the Hudson House is used as a restaurant, the inside being restored to its original design and appearance.

Note: The name HOARE is the same as HARE – the spelling was changed.
